The results were based on a poll conducted by Quinnipiac University on March 5-6, with a margin of error of plus or minus 2.4 percentage points.
The survey found that Trump’s approval rating was at 37 percent, and disapproval was at 56 percent.
Fifty-four percent of respondents said they believed that Trump is being unfairly targeted by the mainstream press.
Forty-two percent said that they are frustrated by his behavior.
The numbers are consistent with the findings of a Pew Research Center survey released last month.
It found that 41 percent of Trump’s supporters say they disapprove of the president, while 45 percent of his detractors do.
In the survey, 58 percent of the respondents said that the media was biased against the president.
In the poll, 57 percent of Republicans, 48 percent of independents and 35 percent of Democrats said that media bias is a problem.
The poll also found that 53 percent of white voters said that news outlets were biased against Republicans, and 43 percent of voters of color did the same.
On Monday, the president signed a sweeping executive order that prohibits federal contractors from discriminating against LGBT Americans, immigrants and the disabled.
