MSNBC title Trump aides removed from the WH team to help keep the Russia probe alive article Washington, DC — President Donald Trump’s aides have been removed from his White House team, Politico reported on Tuesday.
Politico reported that a senior administration official who had been working on the Russia investigation and had previously served on Trump’s transition team was being removed to help with the White House’s Russia probe.
The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
The official was named as David Addington, a former lawyer for Trump who had previously worked for a law firm representing Trump in several legal cases.
Addington’s removal comes after Trump hired lawyers who had also worked on the Trump campaign and administration to assist in the Russia inquiry, Politico said.
Addignies departure comes after reports that a Trump team aide was trying to block a White House investigation into Russian meddling in the 2016 presidential election.
Addington previously worked on a lawsuit challenging the Obama administration’s deportation orders to people living in the U.S. illegally.
In an email to The Hill, Addington said that the Trump team’s efforts to block the Russia-related investigation “did not help our cause.”
“The fact that they have done this is a sign of the desperation and ineptitude of the Trump administration and the fact that it is a betrayal of their oath to serve the American people,” Addington wrote.
