Breitbart News is reporting that Costco has told employees to no longer offer free products and no more discount coupons, after finding out that the popular retailer was going to go on a price war with Wal-Mart in the near future.
In a statement to Breitbart News, Costco told employees, “Costco is proud to have been a pioneer in the retailing industry and the past two decades have seen us offer customers unparalleled value with products at an incredible value.
Our mission at Costco is to serve our customers with products that are the best value and provide them with a service they are excited to use every day.
We believe in our customers, and the commitment to the best products, service and loyalty they deserve, and we continue to work with Costco to provide them the best customer experience possible.
We are sorry for the inconvenience caused by Costco’s announcement that it is discontinuing its free product and discount coupons program.
We are working with our associates to determine what their next steps will be.”
Costco has been a popular retailer for years, and has enjoyed a stellar customer service record, but the company has been hit with several lawsuits in recent years, including one alleging the company misused its brand name.
Costco previously faced several lawsuits over its pricing practices.
The retailer faced a class-action lawsuit filed by customers over the years, alleging that the company’s prices were artificially high, causing consumers to cancel purchases, and then re-order the same products at higher prices.
This lawsuit was eventually settled out of court, and Costco’s reputation was restored.
